The time has shown that this wine region, Valul lui Traian, is truly exceptional for vineyard plantations. The year 1953 marks a turning point in the history of Tiganca Winery, as this is when it became a real ``wine factory``, moving its premises to Plopi village. The winery soon became highly appreciated in Moldova and abroad, due to the high quality of the wines produced here. Both the location of the winery, the specific climate and soil conditions and the talent of the winemakers gave birth to exceptional wines, one of the best examples of which is Tokaji, with an intense raisins’ flavor - ``Nejnosti`` (Tenderness).The wines stored in Tiganca’s wine cellars are the most eloquent proof of the potential of this area and of the successes achieved over time. The winery’s own collection of high-quality wines is a true treasure and a reason for national pride, including such wines as Trifesti 1970, Auriu 1972 or Gratiesti 1973.
The wine industry has experienced a painful chapter in the period between 1985 and 1990, when a massive campaign of alcohol prohibition took place in the URSS and all wine producers have suffered greatly.
A NEW BEGINNING
The year 1999 can be considered a new beginning for Tiganca Winery. The winery becomes the owner of the Dulgher family, which makes major efforts to re-equip the plant, renovate the cellars, provide it with oak barrels and, of course, establish new vine plantations. Step by step, the traditional winemaking practices began to be combined with modern technology.
Planting own vine
The year 2002 marks the beginning of the winery’s own vineyard plantation, at a distance of 70 km from the winery, in Romanovca and Filipeni villages, Valul lui Traian wine region. The planting was performed by experts from the National Institute of Vine and Wine from Moldova who selected the vineyards with the best soil for each grape variety.
Creating the gitana brand
In 2009, the project of creating a symbolic brand to successfully represent the wines of Tiganca Winery started. Its result is Gitana trademark, marking a new stage in the winery’s development.
THE APPEARANCE OF THE FIRST WINES SERIES UNDER THE GITANA BRAND
The year 2011 marks the emergence of the first series of bottled wines under Gitana trademark. This collection contains matured dry wines such as Cabernet Sauvignon 2007, Merlot 2009, Rhein Riesling 2009 and Royal Feteasca 2009. In 2012, Saperavi 2011 is launched, along with the first blending wines of the winery: Lupi Rezerva 2009 and La Petite Sophie 2010, which have become symbols of Gitana Winery.
Expanding on the Asian market
In 2017, Gitana Winery expanded to Asian markets and the first exports to Japan, China, and South Korea took place. Also in 2017, it was launched range Autograph, which includes four varieties of wine Feteasca Regala, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Merlot, and in 2018 Gitana Winery announced another novelty launched three wines range Young, White, Pink and red Gitana.
